Under the overall executive leadership of Jeff Bonzelaar, the Directors have responsibility for managing specific areas of Life Challenge. They represent the “public face” of our ministry. In addition to the Directors, over 30 staff and volunteers are engaged to manage operations, maintain facilities, teach and supervise students at our two campuses in Detroit and Flint.
Jeff Bonzelaar serves as the Executive Director of Life Challenge of Southeastern Michigan and has been employed with the ministry for over 24 years. He oversees both campuses in Detroit and Flint, Michigan. He has a special heart for the ministry as he grew up at a Teen Challenge. He is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God and holds a Masters Degree from Fuller Theological Seminary and a Bachelors Degree from Southeastern University. He has served as a sectional Secretary/Treasurer and Presbyter for the Assemblies of God, Michigan District. He has been married to Lori for 22 years and has four wonderful sons.
Ken Keene serves as the Director of Men and Education. He received his Bachelor of Religious Education from Michigan Theological Seminary (now Moody Theological Seminary) and a Certificate in Bible from Central Bible College. He was a church planter for 3 years and currently serves as a deacon at Revival Tabernacle in Highland Park, MI. He has been married to Rachel for 20 years and is the grateful father of four children.
Sheila serves as the Director of Women and Assistant to the Executive Director. She received her Doctorate of Ministry Degree from United Thelogical Seminary and her Masters Degree in Counseling and Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences from Spring Arbor University. She is a Certified Advanced Addictions Counselor as well as a cedentialed minister with the Church of God. She is married to Brian and has 2 grown daughters and five grandchildren.
Joel entered Life Challenge as a student in 1982 after a long and unsuccessful battle with alcohol. After graduating from the program, he joined the ranks of staff and was eventually promoted to the position of Work Coordinator. Thrifty and resourceful by nature, his hard work and dependability paid off. In 1994, he was promoted to the position of Business and Operations Manager. However, it was not long until his skill-set gained him the position of Director of Business and Operations. Joel has his builder’s license and oversees the finances of the entire ministry. He is married to Judy and has two grown children.
John Richardson serves as our Director of Development. He has taught at the University of South Dakota and the University of Toronto. He is the founder of ad agency Eidos Group, Inc., the new media services company Digital Chicken, and president of Xynapx, a new media consulting company. John is married to Brenda and is the father of two boys.
Brian serves as the Program Director of the Flint campus. Before joining the team at Life Challenge, Brian served as a staff member in various capacities for a total of 11 years in Teen Challenge ministries. He received his Associate of Arts in Family Life Education from Great Lakes Christian College. He is a Certified Addictions Counselor and a credentialed mininster with the Church of God. Brian is married to Sheila Burrell.
Cindy is the head of our marketing department. She is a credentialed minister with the Church of God who joined the ranks of Life Challenge after serving as Executive Pastor for Praise Chapel in Westland, MI. Before entering church ministry, Cindy worked as an executive administrator for the Target Corporation. Among several giftings, Cindy is a strategist with a strong attention to detail. In her spare time, Cindy enjoys classical dance and has multiple certificates therein. Cindy has been faithfully married to Ron for 35 years and together they have two grown children and three grandchildren.
